Diary of a Pickle Eater.

Craft day!

A few days ago I was at Urban Outfitters and I came across a flower brooch/barrette (it had both backings) made out of a rather cheap pink chiffon fabric. I thought it was pretty and romantic so I check the price. $18! Insane. I could make one for cheaper than that, I thought. So I did. It’s not quite as fluffy as the UO one, but it was so, so easy. And I used fabric scraps, buttons and findings that I had at home so it was basically free.

I found the tutorial here. I used silver satin and a matching sparkly silver chiffon/tulle type fabric. The satin melted very well but the tulle just burned and disintegrated when I brought it anywhere near a flame, so after my third or so try I just gave up and left it. I backed the flower with felt before I glued a pin and an alligator barrette to the back.

Then, while I was on a crafty roll I decided to make a feather fascinator headband.

When I sold at the BC craft festival a few weeks ago I befriended a lovely lady named Vicki. On the last day of the festival she gave me a big feather fascinator piece to make a headband out of. I finally got around to making it! I have a stash of buttons and thin metal headbands, so I glued the feather onto the headband, backed it with felt, and then glued the gold button onto the feathers.

The things you can do with a hot glue gun are just amazing.
