San Francisco, You Cold, Miserable (Lovely) Beast.
I’ll admit it. I miss San Francisco weather. I MISS foggy summers and 50 degree days. You don’t even know how well you’ve got it over there, no sir.
In Baltimore, it’s 89 with a real feel of 106. Tomorrow the high is 100, Friday (just in time for Anders’ birthday!) the high is 103, and Accuweather is warning me of impending heat-related doom with miniature red...
FU, Internet.
The age of information, coupled with my crippling procrastination, are scheming to destroy me.
Every day I’m inundated with new ideas, projects, items, tasks, to-do lists, etc, all of which serve to remind me of how very much I’m not doing. Then, I feel this sense of total freedom when I realize that I could be using my valuable couch-sitting time to do SO MANY wonderful AMAZING...
I want to kill this apartment.
The single cabinet is screwed into drywall using only four screws. It’s starting to pull out from the wall. I tried to screw it back in, but the drywall the screws have been inserted into is falling apart. I’m really worried that this cabinet is going to come crashing down with my dishes inside. This is really adding to my anxiety because I’m not sure what, exactly, I’m...
Baltimore, bitches.
I’m going to challenge myself to write in this damn blog once a day this week. About anything.
I’ve been ridiculously lazy about my food blog in the last year. It’s kind of pathetic. I’ve seen other food bloggers start from teeny beginnings and cultivate huge followships in the time that I’ve been slowly, slowly slacking off. Dinnerlove very quickly became this...

Alrighty. Creme fraiche. So it turns out creme fraiche is ridiculously easy to make. All you need is some heavy cream, culture, and a warm-ish windowsill. Emphasis on the warm-ish windowsill. I made…

I’ll let you think about that for a bit.

Yeah, what that FUCK is wrong with me? These are things I literally didn’t care about or even think of until I got engaged. The wedding industry is a curse.
I think part of it has to do with my desire to set an overall...

Yup, that's me in a wedding dress.
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not really your typical bride. I have no idea why not. I was the kind of kid who ran around in pink and tulle, who owned multiple “princess dresses”, who made her brother and cousin play “wedding” every summer in our Nana’s garden. I still wear more skirts and dresses than I do pants, and I’m usually pretty dressed...

How much is too much?
The average American wedding costs about $28-30k. (The stats vary depending on where you look). My parents gave me a set amount of money to use for my wedding, and my goal is to only spend half of it. This means that my budget is well under the national average.
Now, honestly, I think $30k is a crazy amount of money to spend on a wedding. The sad truth is, however, that as soon as you say the...

Wedding dress shopping.
Yesterday my posse (Mom, 2 aunts, cousin, sister, Nana and friend) and I went to a bridal fair at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco and dress shopping at Priscilla of Boston.
I think I might have a screw loose somewhere. Let me explain.
The bridal fair was fun. For $10 (big thanks to Ms. Randi for the coupon code!) we gained entry into a gorgeous hotel where we imbibed free champagne, hor...

In which I find the mythic Sky Terrace.
There is a rooftop on top of the mall in downtown San Francisco. It’s apparently a public open space, but it’s very well hidden. There is no way I would ever have been able to get there without the very helpful Yelp! review of Manabu M.
If you’ve ever been to the mall in question, you have probably seen this sign.
This sign in a lie and WILL NOT take you anywhere near the...

This wedding dress is INSANE.
I’ve been looking up wedding traditions and examples of wedding gowns from different eras, and I stumbled upon this dress. It is a wedding gown from 1759, displayed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. You can see it full-size (for better embroidery detail) here.
I mean holy crap. I know architectural skirt styles and bustles were really popular, but this is a bustle gone berzerk! I have no...

Ode to the chest mural.
I used to think that I would never get a chest piece tattoo, because although I think they look amazing they are impossible to hide and I feel that this style of tattoo would look particularly terrible when I’m 80.
However, as I’ve been planning my offbeat-ish wedding I’ve come across more and more pictures of brides with fantastic tattoos. This includes some awesome chest ink.

Craft day!
A few days ago I was at Urban Outfitters and I came across a flower brooch/barrette (it had both backings) made out of a rather cheap pink chiffon fabric. I thought it was pretty and romantic so I check the price. $18! Insane. I could make one for cheaper than that, I thought. So I did. It’s not quite as fluffy as the UO one, but it was so, so easy. And I used fabric scraps, buttons and...

On weddings.
I used to love wedding blogs, back when I wasn’t actually engaged. It felt illicit somehow, dangerous. Oh, hahaha, I’m reading about weddings! I’m not even engaged and not sure I’ll ever be! I hope Anders doesn’t see me looking and freak out… Now it’s mostly tiring. Now that I have actual planning to do, it occurs to me that I don’t want to spend so...
Late afternoon.
In the late afternoon the sun filters through the trees outside of my window and projects images on my walls that resemble sonograms.
If my apartment were indeed pregnant it would be giving birth to some mutant, sharp-nosed thing. With detached, watery claws.

Boston
It’s true that I miss San Francisco like crazy, almost every day.
But then I see pictures like this.
These are pictures taken by Lisa Rigby of a wedding in the Old North Church-situated in the North End, it is where Paul Revere arranged for lanterns to be hung (you know, “one if by land, two if by sea”) to warn the American colonists of the British invasion.
It’s sad...

My first sweater!
I’ve been knitting for about a year now, and this is my very first project with sleeves.
It’s the anthropologie-inspired capelet patten from ravelry.com. I’ve been avoiding knitting a sweater because it seemed too difficult, but I made this and it was SO EASY. I’m really, really excited to knit a full-blown sweater now.
